Before you start

Open ChatGPT on desktop and use the LaunchBox account that owns your community. Member or admin access alone does not qualify for this connection. This walkthrough connects an existing community using ChatGPT’s Plugins interface; menus and custom connection availability can vary by account and workspace.

The recording starts with an existing LaunchBox sign-in. If you’re signed out, LaunchBox opens a sign-in window on its approval page before you review access.

Six steps to get connected

  1. Add a custom connection in ChatGPT

Open Plugins, choose Add, then Add custom MCP server.

  2. Enter the LaunchBox address

Name the connection LaunchBox, paste the address below, and leave Authentication set to OAuth. Review the custom server notice, check its confirmation box, and choose Create as a plugin.

  3. Continue to LaunchBox

Review ChatGPT’s connection notice and choose Continue to LaunchBox. If prompted, choose Sign in to LaunchBox and sign in using the on-page window. Your pending connection request stays in place.

  4. Choose your community and permissions

Select Manage a community I own if a purpose choice appears, then choose your community. Read the permissions and enable optional access only when you need it. Choose Allow connection to return to ChatGPT.

Some permissions allow publishing or changing content. Signing in does not approve access; the final Allow connection button does. The video leaves optional permissions unchecked.

  5. Try LaunchBox in a chat

Find LaunchBox under your personal plugins and choose Try in chat. Ask: “Which LaunchBox community am I connected to? Please check the connection only; do not create or publish anything.”

  6. Confirm your community

Check that ChatGPT returns the community you selected. The recording confirms Ian McDonald AI as its demo community; your response should name your own community.

If you get stuck

I don’t see the same ChatGPT menus

This video shows the desktop interface tested on October 12, 2026. Menu names and custom connection availability can vary. Check the settings and permissions for your ChatGPT account or ask your workspace administrator whether custom MCP connections are available.

My community isn’t listed

Check which email is signed in on the LaunchBox approval page. Use the account that owns the community. Return to ChatGPT and start a fresh connection if you need to change accounts.

ChatGPT connects, but a tool fails

Ask ChatGPT to check the connected community. If it reports an expired connection or missing permission, reconnect and review the requested access. Refreshing an existing connection does not automatically add optional permissions.

I want to disconnect ChatGPT

Open AI connections, find the ChatGPT connection under Connected assistants, and choose Disconnect. This stops future access through that connection. Previously saved work remains in LaunchBox.
